Mission and History

The Office of Global Internships aims to enable UVA students' participation in meaningful internships in international and/or "global" settings. We endeavor to fulfill this mission by:

  • Identifying internship opportunities, including the cultivation of positions exclusively dedicated to UVA students through relationships with the UVA alumni network, non-governmental organizations, businesses, government bureaus, and other partners
  • Supplying necessary official paperwork for international travel and work
  • Providing scholarships to allay opportunity costs associated with internships
  • Highlighting the cross-cultural experiential education dimension of students' work abroad

We work closely with colleagues at the International Studies Office, UVA Career Center, Global Grounds, University Internships Program, and many other offices, as well as with faculty, staff, and student groups across Grounds.

Created in support of the “high-impact educational experiences” and “global experiences” strategies outlined in UVA’s Cornerstone Plan, the Office of Global Internships will celebrate its fourth full year in operation in summer 2018.
